In 2009, while hunting with a large group of bird hunters, it became apparent to us that there had to be a better way of loading our dogs after each field. The dogs that accompany us are as much pets as they are bird dogs. We enjoy the company of our dogs and try to treat them as good as possible. One thing we have observed over the years is that the grass isn’t getting any shorter and our backs aren’t getting any stouter. Even so we expect our bird hunting companions to keep up, they are not getting any younger either. As each year passes and we attempt to top the year before, we have seen truck beds get higher and higher. Some pickup beds are over 4 foot above the ground, making it harder and harder for our old companions to load, and even harder for us to lift them. Lifting a dog is as hard on the dog as it is the hunter. Having a dog jump into the back of a high truck bed can cause harm from a young age due to knee, hip and back damage. But even worse is when the dog unloads. The compaction of knees hips and back can significantly increase the long term damage to the dog.
This said we were determined to develop a solution. We were not large manufacturers trying to find a gimmick. We are hunters first, and we love our dogs in and out of the field. We have spent numerous hours developing The Dog Step so that in the end it is easily functional for both the hunter and for the dog. The Dog Step had to be easily adjustable to most trucks, in the field today. After several personal hunting trips where The Dog Step was tried and tried again, We were finally able to create The Dog Step that was agreeable to not only the hunters, but to the dogs using it as well. After being satisfied that the step was ready and tested, we asked several real hunters to test it in the field. All of these hunters had only good reviews, many of which have purchased The Dog Step. Now keep in mind, when I say real hunters, I mean hunters just like you and I, guys who have to make their money stretch, and get the most of their hunting experience. These hunters were not paid, and they did not receive free products. And they all purchased The Dog Step in the end. We have taken orders from several hunters who were simply along for the ride.
